Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donald Trump and his family for their tragic loss

Lou Dobbs, Pioneering Cable News Anchor and Polarizing Commentator, Dies at 78

Lou Dobbs, a longtime cable news figure known for his sharp business reporting and later outspoken conservative commentary, died on July 18, 2024, at the age of 78.

His death was announced on his official X account, which described him as a “fighter till the very end — fighting for what mattered to him the most: God, his family and the country.”

Dobbs began his career at CNN in 1980, shortly after the network’s launch. He anchored Moneyline (later Lou Dobbs Tonight), helping establish the template for business news on television with a blend of market analysis, economic insight, and strong on-air presence. He left CNN in 2009 amid controversy over his coverage of illegal immigration and other issues, then joined Fox Business Network, where he hosted Lou Dobbs Tonight until 2021. In recent years, he hosted The Great America Show on iHeartRadio and his own platforms.

A vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, Dobbs drew both praise as a truth-teller on topics like trade, immigration, and economic nationalism, and sharp criticism for rhetoric that some viewed as crossing into conspiracy or inflammatory territory. Supporters saw him as a defender of American interests; detractors accused him of undermining journalistic norms.

He is survived by his wife, Debi, and family members. Dobbs leaves behind a legacy that reshaped cable news while fueling ongoing debates about media polarization and the role of opinion in broadcasting.
