Trump Signs $1.2 Trillion Stopgap Bill to Resolve Partial Government Shutdown🔥💰

President Donald Trump signed a $1.2 trillion stopgap spending bill late Tuesday, bringing an end to a weeklong partial government shutdown and restoring funding to most federal agencies. The measure passed the House of Representatives earlier in the evening by a narrow 217–214 vote. It funds several major departments through September but extends funding for the Department of Homeland Security only until February 13, giving lawmakers roughly 10 days to negotiate a longer-term agreement on immigration and border security.

The legislation advanced after days of tense negotiations and divisions within the Republican Party. Twenty-one Republicans voted against the bill, while 21 Democrats supported it, providing the votes necessary for passage.

In a statement following the signing, Trump said the bill was necessary to prevent further disruption to the economy and maintain essential government services. He urged lawmakers to continue negotiations on unresolved issues, particularly immigration enforcement. House Speaker Mike Johnson defended the compromise as a practical step to reopen the government, while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats will continue pushing for greater oversight and accountability within the Department of Homeland Security. The funding measure allows federal agencies to resume normal operations, with the White House indicating that government employees were expected to return to work Wednesday.
