Kai Trump Shares Personal Glimpse of Grandfather at Republican National Convention
Kai Madison Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, offered a rare personal perspective on her relationship with her grandfather during her speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
The eldest of Trump’s grandchildren and daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, Kai was born in New York in 2007 and has largely stayed out of the public spotlight until recently. In her remarks, she focused on family moments rather than politics, pushing back against media portrayals of her grandfather.
“The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person. But I know him for who he is. He is very caring and loving,” she said. She recalled how he sneaks her candy and soda when her parents aren’t looking, and printed out her high honor roll achievements to proudly show friends.
Golf, Ambition, and a Grounded Life
Kai described golf as a central part of her life and a source of friendly competition with her grandfather. “It’s a stiff competition… he always gives me a run for my money,” she noted. After moving to Florida, she has excelled in the sport, winning a ladies’ club championship at one of Trump’s courses and committing to the women’s golf team at the University of Miami.
“I always aspire to be a leader on and off the course,” she said. Despite her family’s prominence, Kai emphasized her desire for a normal teenage life: “I fit in with everyone else. You would not know at all—and that’s the way I like to keep it.” She added that politics is not part of her current plans.
In a recent family reunion, she shared an emotional moment with her grandfather: “It was really special… we got a little teary-eyed, both of us. I’ll never forget that.”
Online reactions praised her composure and poise. Her appearance highlighted a young woman forging her own path through family bonds, athletic dedication, and a preference for privacy amid public attention.
