The incident prompted the immediate evacuation of President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, senior administration officials, and lawmakers, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Law enforcement identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. Authorities and photographic evidence indicated that Allen, who was shirtless at the time, was apprehended in the hotel lobby after charging a security checkpoint.
