Newly released surveillance images have revealed a masked individual outside the home of Nancy Guthrie in the hours before the 84-year-old woman mysteriously vanished, giving investigators a troubling new lead in the case. Authorities say the footage, recovered from Nancyās security system, shows a person wearing a balaclava, gloves, and a jacket moving around the Tucson property on the night she disappeared. In several black-and-white images, the figure appears to approach the front porch while carrying a backpack and what looks like a flashlight.
Investigators believe the person deliberately interfered with the homeās security camera. According to officials, the individual was seen pulling plants from the yard and placing them over the lens in an attempt to block the view. At one point, the person appears to hold a flashlight in their mouth while tampering with the device, which was later disabled.
Law enforcement said the images were recovered from residual data after recording equipment had been removed from the property. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriffās Department released the footage in hopes of generating new tips. Officials stress the person seen in the images is considered only a āpotential subject,ā not a confirmed suspect. Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31, and the search for answers continues.
