Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Howard Krein, after more than 13 years of marriage, according to court records.
The 44-year-old filed the paperwork Monday in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. Because divorce records in Philadelphia are not public, the exact reason for the separation has not been disclosed. On the same day the filing was reported, Biden posted a photo on Instagram of herself walking through a park and giving a thumbs-up. The post featured the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé and included a quote about embracing change and setting “new boundaries” while beginning a new chapter in life.
Biden and Krein married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware. The couple met through Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden. During the Democratic National Convention last year, Ashley recalled her wedding while introducing her father, sharing how he helped prepare the reception and became emotional during the celebration. At the same time, Joe Biden is facing renewed scrutiny from James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, who is investigating whether the former president’s use of an autopen on official documents could raise legal questions about certain pardons and executive orders.
