On the same day, Biden shared an Instagram post featuring a photo of herself walking through a park with a thumbs-up gesture. The post included the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé and a quote about embracing “new life” and “new beginnings,” suggesting a personal transition.
Ashley and Krein married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, two years after being introduced by her late brother, Beau Biden. She referenced the wedding during remarks at the Democratic National Convention last year, recalling how her father enthusiastically helped organize the celebration while serving as vice president. The divorce news comes as Joe Biden faces renewed political scrutiny in Washington. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has suggested that his investigation into the former president’s mental fitness could raise legal questions about some pardons and executive orders issued during the final months of Biden’s presidency. Comer has specifically questioned the use of an autopen for official signatures.
Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz has noted that any challenge would likely be settled in court, with judges examining both the nature of the documents and whether the president personally authorized them. The controversy intensified after Biden’s widely criticized 2024 debate performance and his subsequent decision to withdraw from the presidential race and endorse Kamala Harris.
