Chris Cillizza says JD Vance is emerging as a serious contender for the 2028 presidential race, warning that Democrats may be underestimating his political strength. Speaking during a recent YouTube livestream, Cillizza pointed to new polling that places Vance ahead of several likely Republican and Democratic contenders.
A recent Emerson College poll showed Vance with a 46 percent favorability rating, reinforcing his growing national profile. Cillizza said the numbers highlight an appeal many Democrats have yet to fully recognize. Harry Enten of CNN also noted Vance’s early advantage, citing polling that places him far ahead in the Republican field. Enten added that early frontrunners often go on to secure their party’s nomination.
Support from conservative activists remains especially strong. At Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, Vance won a straw poll with 84.2 percent support, well ahead of rivals including Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis. While Vance says his immediate focus is on the midterms, his early momentum continues to attract attention 📈🇺🇸.
