Detroit Judge Charged In Alleged Scheme Targeting Vulnerable Residents

Federal prosecutors have recently leveled serious charges against **Andrea Bradley-Baskin**, a judge on the **Detroit 36th District Court**, for her alleged role in a conspiracy to defraud legally incapacitated and vulnerable citizens. The indictment also names **Nancy Williams**, owner of **Guardian and Associates**, and her fiancé, **Dwight Rashad**, as key conspirators in a scheme that systematically targeted individuals dependent on court-appointed officials. The allegations strike at the core of the **guardianship system**, which is designed to protect the finances and properties of those who cannot advocate for themselves. The investigation reveals a pattern of personal enrichment at the expense of the defenseless. According to federal authorities, **Bradley-Baskin** allegedly utilized $54,250 in illicit funds to rent a luxury townhouse in the **Brush Park** neighborhood near **Little Caesars Arena**. Furthermore, more than $29,000 stolen from victims was reportedly used to cover rent at a residence in **Westland**, where property records indicate the judge has lived since at least 2019. These financial footprints suggest a deliberate misappropriation of funds meant for the care of court wards to sustain a high-end lifestyle. Perhaps the most egregious claims involve the manipulation of real estate assets. In one instance, the home of **Frankie James**, a legally incapacitated woman, was allegedly sold for a single dollar to a company owned by **Corey Baskin**, the judge’s husband; the property was later resold for $140,000. Another case highlights the involvement of the judge’s father, attorney **Avery Bradley**, who served as the representative for the estate of the late **Ethel Ciotti**. Both the judge and her father are currently under investigation by the **FBI**, pointing toward a web of familial corruption within the legal framework.

Law enforcement has taken aggressive steps to secure assets linked to the alleged crimes. Federal liens have been filed on an office building in **Oak Park** and a residential property in **Southfield**, marking them for potential government forfeiture. Additionally, the **FBI** has executed search warrants to seize records concerning the care of minors and incapacitated individuals. This ongoing probe aims to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy’s financial impact across the **Detroit metro area** and restore some semblance of accountability. The case raises profound questions about judicial integrity and voter transparency. **Bradley-Baskin** was elected to the bench in November 2024, a time when the **FBI** investigation was already quietly underway. The timing of these charges suggests a systemic failure in the public’s ability to vet candidates effectively, as the details of the probe remained hidden until after the election. Ultimately, the exploitation of the most vulnerable members of society by the very officials sworn to protect them represents a catastrophic breach of public trust that undermines the entire justice system.
