🚨Nampa Mayor Dies After Collapsing During Town Hall Meeting

The community of NampaIdaho, is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of its newly elected mayor, Rick Hogaboam, who passed away at the age of 47. The incident occurred on a Wednesday evening during a regional town hall meeting held at Eagle City Hall. According to local reports, Hogaboam was in the middle of answering a question at approximately 6:45 p.m. when he suffered a sudden medical emergency and collapsed. The scene was described as both chaotic and heartbreaking, as fellow public servants immediately jumped into action to save his life. Eagle Mayor Brad Pike was among the first to respond, performing chest compressions and administering CPR in a desperate attempt to stabilize Hogaboam until professional paramedics arrived to take over the scene. Pike later shared the profound emotional weight of the experience, emphasizing that the mayor received immediate support from everyone present. The trauma of the event extended to others as well; Caldwell Mayor Eric Philips, who witnessed the collapse, also required hospitalization after experiencing chest pains and dizziness brought on by the stress of the situation. Philips noted the jarring transition from a professional discussion to a life-and-death crisis in a matter of seconds. Rick Hogaboam had a distinguished career in Idaho public service long before he took the oath of office as mayor. He had been sworn in on January 5, following a landslide election victory where he secured 62.9% of the vote. His resume included significant roles such as Canyon County clerk, a member of the Nampa City Council, and a brief but impactful term in the Idaho State Senate in 2021. His official biography highlighted a deep-seated commitment to the Nampa community, portraying him as a leader who envisioned a city where citizens could live, work, and worship with pride.

As the city of Nampa enters a period of mourning, City Council President David Bills has officially assumed the duties of acting mayor. The local government is currently reviewing the legal processes for appointing an interim replacement, with a special election expected to be scheduled for later this year to fill the vacancy permanently. In the meantime, the City of Nampa has issued a statement asking for the public’s patience and grace as they navigate the loss of a leader who was also a dear friend to many on the city staff. The cause of death remains under investigation by local authorities. The outpouring of grief from state leaders has been significant. Governor Brad Little described the loss as heartbreaking, praising Hogaboam’s heart for service. Former Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling also offered a touching tribute, describing him as a smart leader who served with integrity. Beyond his professional life, Hogaboam was a dedicated family man—a father of five and a grandfather. Organizations like the Treasure Valley Partnership and the Caldwell Police Department echoed these sentiments, labeling him a pillar of the community whose legacy of non-profit work and public service would not be forgotten.
