Progressive Social Media Influencer Fails in Electoral RacešŸŒ

Progressive Influencer Deja Foxx Defeated in Arizona Congressional Race. PHOENIX — Progressive activist and social media figure Deja Foxx suffered a decisive loss in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, falling more than 40 points behind longtime political figure Adelita Grijalva. The Associated Press projected the race in favor of Grijalva with 65% of votes counted. Grijalva, a Pima County Supervisor and daughter of the late Rep. RaĆŗl Grijalva, secured 62% of the vote, while Foxx, a 25-year-old TikTok personality with nearly 400,000 followers, received just 21%, according to Trending Politics.

Foxx’s campaign, which emphasized her upbringing in Section 8 housing, reliance on food assistance, and early activism for abortion access, had garnered high-profile endorsements from David Hogg and the PAC ā€œLeaders We Deserve.ā€ Despite raising over $670,000, mostly through small-dollar contributions, her social media-driven approach was unable to overcome Grijalva’s deep local roots, name recognition, and broad political support, including endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego. ā€œI couldn’t be prouder of what we built together,ā€ Foxx said after the election, framing the campaign as a moral victory.

Grijalva, in her victory speech, highlighted the continuation of her family’s political legacy. ā€œThis is a victory not for me, but for our community and the progressive movement my dad started in Southern Arizona more than 50 years ago,ā€ she said. The result underscores the continued influence of established political networks, even as progressive activists and social media personalities attempt to challenge traditional Democratic strongholds. Elsewhere, progressive momentum continues in New York, where Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s recent mayoral primary victory has prompted discussion of potential primary challenges against prominent House Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries
