Dangerous Escalation in the Persian Gulf: Reports of Iranian Attacks on US Bases and Regional Targets

Abu Dhabi, UAE – A significant escalation in the ongoing Iran conflict unfolded as powerful explosions rocked key locations across the Persian Gulf, with reports of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeting US military installations and civilian infrastructure.

According to multiple sources, including Reuters and regional reports, the Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates — a critical hub for US and allied forces — came under attack by Iranian ballistic missiles, triggering large explosions. UAE authorities responded by closing the country’s airspace amid the unfolding crisis.

In Bahrain’s capital, Manama, smoke was reported rising in the Al Jafair area near the US Fifth Fleet headquarters following an alleged Iranian strike. Authorities there also announced the closure of national airspace as a precautionary measure.

Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed it successfully repelled several incoming attacks and placed the country on high alert, highlighting the coordinated defensive efforts by Gulf states hosting US assets.

In Kuwait, powerful explosions were heard, prompting authorities to urge citizens to remain indoors and avoid non-essential travel. Reports indicated impacts near sensitive sites, including damage to Kuwait International Airport from Iranian drones, resulting in at least one fatality and dozens of injuries in related strikes.

This latest wave of attacks appears to form part of Iran’s retaliatory actions in the broader 2026 Iran war, amid ongoing tensions involving US and allied operations. The situation remains highly fluid, with limited independent verification of damage levels and casualties at this stage. Official statements from involved parties and further updates from international monitors are anticipated as events develop.
