Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Howard Krein, after more than 13 years of marriage, according to court records. The 44-year-old former first daughter submitted the divorce filing Monday in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. Details surrounding the separation remain unclear, as divorce records in Philadelphia are not publicly available.
On the same day the filing became public, Biden shared a reflective message on Instagram. The post included a photo of her walking through a park while giving a thumbs-up, set to the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé. She also posted a quote about embracing change, writing about “new life, new beginnings” and establishing new boundaries moving forward. Biden and Krein married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware. The couple first met through Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden. During the Democratic National Convention last year, Ashley fondly recalled the wedding while introducing her father, sharing how he helped set up the reception and became emotional during the celebration.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden is also facing renewed political scrutiny. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, says his investigation into the former president’s mental fitness could raise legal questions about certain pardons and executive orders issued late in Biden’s presidency. Comer has argued that the frequent use of an autopen for official signatures may create legal uncertainty if it cannot be shown that Biden personally approved the documents. Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz noted that challenges over such signatures could ultimately be settled in court.
