An emotional update about Savannah Guthrie came after she briefly returned to the set of Today on Thursday to visit colleagues behind the scenes. During the visit, Guthrie thanked the team for the overwhelming support they have shown her during a painful time, saying her coworkers cared deeply about her mother as well.
Guthrie has been away from the program since the weekend of January 31 after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, reportedly disappeared following a suspected kidnapping in Tucson, Arizona. Nancy Guthrie is 84 years old and suffers from a heart condition. Authorities have not yet announced significant leads in the case.
While speaking with her colleagues, Guthrie said she is holding on to hope. She also shared that she intends to return to the show eventually, though she admitted she is still unsure when or how that transition will happen. In her absence, Hoda Kotb, Sheinelle Jones, and Craig Melvin have helped anchor the program. During Guthrie’s visit, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer led the staff in a prayer for her mother’s safe return, a moment colleagues later described as deeply emotional and heartfelt.
